Flying Thoughts

This weekend I flew to London to help train a Chinese church with the healing on the streets model. Whenever I fly away, I like to sit by a window and spend that time praying. God always seems to have a way of grabbing my attention during these times.

On one visit I was asking God to show his power. I was sitting by a window overlooking the wing. As I prayed lightning struck the wing which lit up the inside of the plane with the brightest, whitest light. I think even atheists onboard began to pray! It's made me ask God to show his power only when my feet's on solid ground, just in case.

On this particular trip to London, I managed to get a window seat. It was a dark, grey, wet day as our plane took off from Belfast. Sitting in front of me was a six year old girl, who was on her way to meet her father at Stansted airport. As the plane climbed through the rain, into white clouds then brilliant blue skies above, I heard her say “We might see a rainbow.”

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

I wanted to tell to her about the one who creates rainbows. It seems she already knew. She was chatting non stop throughout the flight. I was thinking how free and joyful the spirit of this child was, when suddenly she broke into song….

“And now let the weak say, "I am strong" Let the poor say, "I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us." She sang the whole chorus of “Give Thanks.”

When the plane landed she continued to sing. I said to her, “You love Jesus, don’t you.” She turned to the adult accompanying her and said “He knows Jesus!” The adult with her said, “Don’t get her started, she won’t stop talking about him now.” As we left the plane she was still chatting about the rainbow maker.

When we got to baggage reclaim I saw this small girl running towards the arrivals exit doors. Full of excitement and expectation, and before she even got near the exit doors, she called out as loud as she could, “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! I’m sure Daddy heard her.

Out in Chinatown I watched as these Chinese Christ followers became like “little children.” They jumped for joy and clapped and laughed. They thanked and worshipped God, as Jesus healed the sick on the streets.
